Is the Emily Ley Planner Actually Worth the Money?
This post: The Simplified Planner review, in which you decide if it’s worth the money.
I love the idea of planners.
But I haven’t always loved using a planner. Over the years, I’ve probably tried a dozen different planners. Nine times out of ten, they end up shoved on a shelf – or lost in a pile- sometime before spring thaws the frost on my window.
Here’s the honest truth:
Most planners aren’t user-friendly. -> Most planners are a waste of money.
Today I want to talk about a planner I discovered years ago.
And I’m still using it.
Why?
Because the Simplified Planner by Emily Ley is different.
I would even venture to say that it would make an ideal gift for a homeschool mom (like me).
In full disclosure, if you’ve ever checked out the Simplified Planner then you know it can be a bit pricy. So how did I go from shamelessly pitching my dollar-store-and-Bible-book store-planners mid-year… to investing $50 or $60 in a planner?
Is the Simplified Planner by Emily Ley really THAT much better?
Is it worth the money?
I’ll let you decide. (Keep reading: I have money-saving tips below).

Any time I’m trying to decide how much money I’m willing to spend on something, I weigh how much value that product might actually bring to my life.
Even if something is inexpensive or super affordable, if the practical value is zero then it’s still a waste of money.
That’s how a planner that costs $20, or even $5, isn’t worth it.
-> Unless a product actually brings value to my life, then I’ve wasted my dollars.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t have money to waste.
3 Things You Need to Know About The Simplified Planner by Emily Ley
In my quest for finding a planner that I’ll actually use, I look for a few very specific qualities.
Discovering these qualities in a planner is what makes that item priceless to me-
And a tool I’ll actually use to simplify and organize my life.
There are three things I want you to know about The Simplified Planner.
#1 The Simplified Planner gives lots of space to write.
Nothing drives me crazy more than not having enough margin in a planner to actually write stuff down.
I can’t tell you how many planners I’ve bought that had tiny calendar boxes, and practically no space for lists or notes.
The Simplified Planner by Emily Lee is refreshingly generous with white space.
Personally, I prefer the daily or weekly editions of this planner, as they offer the most white space for scheduling.
The daily edition-shown below is thicker and boasts the most pages.
Here’s a peek at my Simplified Planner, monthly edition
#2 The Simplified Planner doesn’t overwhelm with useless lists.
Have you ever actually used one of those “habit trackers” that most planners include?
Yeah, me neither.
In fact, most of the lists and charts in planners just take up space-
Space I could be using for writing my own stuff down.
The lists and charts found in Emily Ley’s planners are delightfully practical.
#3 The Simplified Planner by Emily Lee is heirloom quality.
The bold charm of Emily Ley’s style is what initially drew me to her planners.
When I finally took the plunge and invested in my first Simplified Planner, I was amazed by the quality.
Honestly, I felt like I was handling something luxurious… I couldn’t even throw away the box!
Everything about the Simplified Planner is heirloom quality: the pages, the covers, the binding- like I said, even the boxes.
So why would you hand down a planner as an heirloom, you ask?
Well, I’m not saying you have to. I’m just saying, you could, if you wanted to.
The planners are that well made.
Emily Ley’s bold and beautiful signature style is reminiscent of another of my favorite brands: Kate Spade.
If you like bright florals, polka dots, stripes, bold femininity + high quality- you’ll adore the Simplified Planner.
What if I still can’t afford the Simplified Planner?
So maybe you’re convinced that The Simplified Planner might be worth the money… but it just doesn’t fit the budget.
I get it. There have been lots of years that I couldn’t have spent $50 or $60 on a planner. (I mean, $50 used to be our weekly grocery budget!)
The good news, there are more affordable options: still beautiful, still practical, still The Simplified Planner by Emily Ley.

Simplified Planners :: $20
The least expensive Simplified Planner is the monthly edition. At $20, it’s a very affordable option without giving up any of the Emily Ley goodness.
Simplified Planners :: $10 or less
Many office stores, like Office Depot and Staples, or home + grocery markets like Target and Walmart, carry less expensive editions of the Simplified Planner.
These editions aren’t quite as posh as the products available at EmilyLey.com, but they’re still top quality– and they’re as useful as they are pretty.
You can find a line of Emily Ley planners on Amazon for under $10 (for pocket editions), or less than $30 (for full size planners).

I loved your planner so much I didn’t realize it was 2023 -2024. It’s harder for me to keep up with my bills stopping mid year. Is there a way I can order 6 months for 2024 July – December as an addition package?
Hi Eva! You’ll need to reach out to The Simplified Planner with your question!
This is beautiful! And I agree: space to write is so important.
