This sounds like one of those super obvious posts, right?
HOW to have a nature walk in Autumn. You just walk around, right?
Seriously. 🙂
Nope, I’m not about to share some amazing, profound idea with you.
And, yes, I do believe that you already know HOW to have a nature walk. In Autumn.
Or whenever.
In Texas, we are still enjoying 50 and 60-degree days.
Maybe you would have to wear snow boots in order to have a nature walk right now?
My point is, don’t overlook the simple gifts of this season… like nature walks.
Yes, like walking around in your back (or front) yard with your kids, picking up leaves, ooohing and ahhhing over chunks of bark and colorful berries.
So, maybe I am telling you HOW to have that nature walk.
You relax.
You forget the to do list for a while.
You close the books on math and phonics for just a while.
You close the door on the messes that are driving you c-r-a-z-y.
You bundle up your kids and just get outside.
Or, if you live in Texas like I do, you just get outside.
And you look around at God’s beautiful, abundant nature with child-like eyes. Child-like wonder.
If you are thinking about your front yard with critical thoughts right now, STOP IT.
Stop thinking about how you don’t live in the country, or how it’s not as scenic as such-and-such a place, or how you have a teeny, tiny lot in town…
Just get out there (or go to a park) and start looking for something beautiful. Because, my friend, if you look YOU WILL find it!
You see, my kids think we have GORGEOUS fall colors here in Texas. Which is, of course, absurd. We barely have trees!
But my little guys find these GORGEOUS yellow and gold and maybe-almost-orange leaves on the ground in our yard.
And, you see, I make a really big deal every time we’re driving to church or the grocery store, and we see trees with little tips of yellow and maybe-almost-orange.
And we all yell, “Look at those leaves! Aren’t they pretty? I just love fall!”
But back to that nature walk.
After my two-year old fussed about the stickers for a while (we have those in Texas), and my five-year old filled his little bucket up with treasures, we headed inside to create pretty things with our leaves and sticks and pecans and berries.
And we made pumpkin spice tea.
Which we totally forgot to drink. (But it sure made the house smell delictable!)
And after that, we took naps.
See? That’s how to have a nature walk.
In autumn.
In your front yard.
In Texas. Or, wherever.

What a fun reminder that nature walks aren’t just for summer! My kids will be outside bundled up enjoying the snow that fell last night. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you, Lisa! Enjoy the snow! We don’t get much of that here in Texas, but we always love it when we do!
