The Power of Choice in Your Life as a Woman of Vision

Good morning, friends!  Here is part two of Becoming a Woman of Eternal Vision.  (You can read part one here if you missed it.)

Today’s post: The Power of Choice in Your Life as a Woman of Vision.

Women in our culture generally demand two things: choice and equality.

The funny thing is, God has freely given us both these gifts… just not in the context that our secular culture demands them!

The gift of choice:

I call heaven and earth to record this day against you that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.” Deuteronomy 30:19

The gift of equality:

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.”  Galatians 3:28

“For there is no respect of persons with God.”

Romans 2:11

Most of the time, the phrase “pro choice” comes to mind when we think about women and their “right” to choose, and I’m not talking about that.

God has given us this amazing gift of choice (free will), but many of us fail to own it in the areas of life that matter the most.

Have you ever thought of the power of your daily choices in helping you overcome so many of the “unchangeables” in your life?

Think of all the things you can’t change in your life right now: Your past, your upbringing, ethnicity, social status, intelligence, talent, health, what happens within your extended family, your church and ministry, just to name a few.

While we do have the gift of choice, what God withholds from us is control.

So much, so very much, in our life slips beyond the edges of our control.

But our vision…

our perspective…

our choices…

We have complete control over each of these.

Ladies, it’s so easy to lose sight of this when we’re living through the insecurities, uncertainties, and struggles of every day life.

Disappointments, loneliness, fatigue, difficult relationships, emotional baggage… all these things can weigh us down and cause us to lose sight of God’s bigger picture in our lives.

Regardless how difficult, disappointing, or just plain old mundane life can seem, we always have the freedom to choose:

choose gratitude

choose joy

choose faith.

The sum of those daily choices matters greatly!  Whether we realize it or not, every attitude incubates a habit that, if left unchecked, begins to chart the destiny of our life.

So much of eternal value in our life hinges on our perspective, our paradigm, our vision.

Do we see through eyes of eternity?

Or does the scope of our horizon stop at the end of our own noses?

Where there is no vision, the people perish…” Proverbs 29:18

If all I see today are the sticky floors, the bags under my tired eyes, relationships that remind me of my limitations, disappointments, needs, distractions, failures, fears…

If that is all I see, then I am not a woman of eternal vision.

I am a woman looking at my feet and struggling to make sense of this tangled, confusing maze called Life.

Life is set to disappoint, because nothing makes sense from the vantage point of one straining at the universe through a crack in a wall.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:9

I want God to bulldoze the walls of my “box”.

Let Him change my paradigm,

broaden my horizon,

throw back the heavy curtains of doubt and fear and insecurity that suffocate the life out of my Life,

and begin to stare wide-eyed at the endless possibilities of what my life can look like when it becomes lost in Him.

Nothing is impossible, my friend.

Nothing in my life or yours is in vain , useless, or wasted… unless we choose to waste it.

And, regardless what any day may ever bring, it will always come with the power of CHOICE.

What can I choose to let go of today in order to grasp the measureless possibilities of my life abandoned to the purposes of Christ?

What will cease to strain and burden my eyes when I choose to catch a glimpse of the bigger picture He has for me TODAY… RIGHT NOW?

What first step will I choose to take to move out of a prison of fear and insecurity, and run freely into a future bright with freedom?

God help us choose to be women of eternal vision!

  1. Thank you so much for this post, Kristy! I especially appreciated this quote, “Life is set to disappoint, because nothing makes sense from the vantage point of one straining at the universe through a crack in a wall.” Great way to put life in perspective! Sometimes its hard to see the big picture of life & eternity beyond but this helps remind me that the reason why I’m frustrated is because I can only see a small part of a vast tapestry! Thank you!

    1. You’re welcome, Anna… and thank you for reading and commenting here.

I feel like I do a lot of that “straining” (and, yes, it brings frustration!). I want the Lord to open my heart to His limitless character… especially my trust in the parts I may never understand.
